[Here's our input to the February edition of the Churchdown Magazine:]
This year your favourite choir is celebrating its diamond jubilee – sixty years of entertaining the people of Churchdown and far beyond, raising money for a vast number of charities and, above all, enjoying sharing our music and friendship with each other. Given that many choirs suffered a decline in numbers because of Covid, with some folding altogether, the fact that we have expanded significantly in recent years is cause for celebration in itself. This year’s fun starts with a concert at the Roses in Tewkesbury in March, singing alongside the Gloucestershire Police Ladies Choir “Voices in Force” and raising money for the Mayor’s charities Friends of Alderman Knight and SARA (tickets are available through the Roses box office - see Tewkesbury Borough Mayor's Charity Concert | The Roses). In April we’re joining the Forest of Dean Brass Band at Parkend for a joint concert of what promises to be an interesting mixture of musical genres. Then there’s the biggie – our Gala Concert celebrating our jubilee at the Guildhall in Gloucester. This will be a multi-media celebration of the choir’s music and achievements over sixty years and definitely one not to miss – tickets are selling fast via the Guildhall box office. Our celebrations then continue with a High Tea event for all of our choristers past and present. In between all of this we have a concert at Churchdown Methodist Church in June and several more in the pipeline, so it’s looking like another packed year. There’s plenty for you to get your teeth into – both as our absolutely invaluable supporters and as potential singers – if you enjoy singing and fancy a go, get in touch via our website www.churchdownmvc.org or just turn up at the CCA at 7.30PM on a Monday. And we’re particularly on the lookout for First Tenors, so please consider joining if you can hit those high notes! Yours in Song, Rev Barry Taylor
