This month's contribution to the Churchdown Magazine:
The last couple of months have shown just how versatile a choir we can be – we performed to a noisy crowd of revellers in the garden of the Pelican Inn for their beer festival; in Warehouse Four on the docks in aid of the Hollie Gazzard Trust; on a slightly more formal stage at the Churchdown Community Centre alongside the Bridgend Male Voice Choir, where the joint pieces at the end saw nearly 80 of us singing some truly rousing stuff together; up a corner at the summer fete for St Patrick’s church; and finally in Bourton-on-the-water for a concert in aid of Kate’s Home Nursing. Whether it’s the whole choir or a handful of us, accompanied by our virtuoso pianist or trying to remember all the notes singing A-Cappella, we’ve pretty much done it all over the last few weeks. In every case we’ve enjoyed ourselves every bit as much as our audiences have and made lots of money for charity – all of which is what it’s really about. In a couple of weeks we’ll be on our best behaviour for a formal recording session – whether we end up on CD or some variety of social media that is beyond my understanding, once more Churchdown Male Voice Choir will be out there for all to see and hear. Then we have a couple more concerts before the highlight of our year – our tour. This year we’re off to Llangollen where, among other things, we’ll be on stage at the fantastic Stiwt Theatre in Wrexham alongside the world-famous Fron male Voice Choir (tickets are selling fast). There’s really never a dull moment in this incredibly popular and diverse choir, so keep a watch out for our posters or look at our website, and if you’re interested in joining get in touch at www.churchdownmvc.org or just turn up at the CCA at 7.30PM on a Monday. We can certainly promise you no end of variety! Barry
